Live SessionsProgram Schedule
Time Commitment: 10-weeks, 1 class per week, 2 hours per class
The program is conducted live via Forum, Minerva’s dynamic virtual learning platform. Participants can therefore join from the comfort of their home or office anywhere in the world.
The spring 2024 schedule will be announced when the application opens.
The Leadership in the Legal Profession course is designed to address a significant deficit in legal training; namely that most attorneys are only trained on legal acumen and knowledge, while in today’s world, they need to be effective people and project managers.
Participants will join a small cohort of similarly situated legal professionals for weekly virtual classes. This format allows learners to participate from the comfort of their home or office and really get to know each other as the course progresses. It also provides for an effective learning experience, as participants can apply course takeaways to their work over an extended period of time, thereby reinforcing new skills and eliciting insights through self-reflection and group discussion. This is in contrast to other executive leadership courses, which attempt to condense all material over a few days and also typically cost substantially more.
Each cohort runs for two hours, one day per week, for 10 consecutive weeks. Please see the Program Details section of this page for more information about timing. Participants are also expected to prepare for each class by spending approximately 1-2 hours per week reading course materials. If you are interested in taking the course at a time that is optimized for a different time zone, please contact us.
Mid to senior level practicing attorneys (from law firms, in-house corporate teams, governmental agencies, and non-profits) who want to advance their leadership, people, and project management skills.
We accept qualified candidates on a rolling basis and space is limited, so we encourage you to apply early.

Unit 1
Systems thinking is a discipline of understanding interrelationships, of seeing whole and parts of the whole, of recognizing patterns of change.
We begin the course by applying the framework of systems thinking to understand the complex web of interactions among individuals and groups, which provides a powerful lens for analyzing the dynamics of human systems. We build on this framework by identifying factors that motivate individual behavior, including habits and cognitive biases, and then consider how to leverage this knowledge to inspire others to achieve a common purpose.
Unit 2
Self-awareness and listening empathically to others is the foundation of effective communication and team enablement.
We study techniques to build these capacities and then turn to an understanding of how emotional intelligence manifests in groups that collaborate well. Leaders must also learn to express themselves clearly and persuasively, which requires understanding both the verbal and nonverbal components of communication.
Unit 3
Inspirational leaders navigate and resolve problems, support innovation, manage change, and address challenges.
We examine how to approach problems using a structured process of analysis, ideation, decision making, and implementation that draws on knowledge of motivation and communication discussed earlier in the course. Then we apply this approach to addressing strategic challenges that arise in an evolving environment. We conclude by considering how to synthesize the different components of effective leadership to adapt to new challenges and changing conditions.

I signed up for the course when I was a new partner in a boutique firm (after serving as an Assistant United States Attorney for almost a decade) because I thought it would help me navigate my new world of management and private practice, as well as give me the opportunity to meet some other lawyers. The course far exceeded my expectations and I’d highly recommend it to other attorneys looking to become more effective and confident leaders.

The program exceeded my expectations. Even during a time when my workload was extremely heavy, I looked forward to reading the course materials in preparation for the weekly two-hour class. The time commitment was significant, but it was very worthwhile and enjoyable
